Kylian Mbappé hospitalized for "acute gastroenteritis" in the United States
Suffering since his arrival in the United States, where he is playing in the Club World Cup with Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé has been hospitalized, his team announced on Thursday, June 19. The French striker is suffering from "acute gastroenteritis," the Spanish team stated in a short statement, and he will undergo "various examinations and treatments."
The French captain missed Real Madrid's opening match the day before against Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal, which ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw in Miami, Florida . Asked after the match whether the number 9 would be back in the squad for Sunday's clash with Mexican club Pachuca in Charlotte, North Carolina, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso left some doubt: "We don't know if he'll be there (...). We'll see how he recovers in the coming days."
According to the Madrid daily Marca , the 26-year-old Bondy player was so weakened across the Atlantic that he missed the official photoshoot for the Club World Cup and was unable to be there when Real president Florentino Pérez arrived on American soil.
After a fine first season with the team, and winner of the Pichichi Trophy and the Golden Boot, respectively awarded to the top scorer in the Spanish league and the continent, Kylian Mbappé has made no secret of his desire to shine at the Club World Cup to get back in the race for the Ballon d'Or. He has suffered from Real Madrid's disappointing performances, which ended the 2024-2025 season without any major trophies.
